A short story
It was in 1966 that work commenced on re-claiming the land from the sea and the construction of the Port of Fontvieille. This operation which added 22 hectares to the area of the Principality, necessitated the use of 7.5 million cubic meters of earth and rock. After the work was finished in 1973 the actual construction of the buildings in Fontivieille began and this new quarter of the Principality started to develop.
Characteristics of the harbour
Covering on area of approximately 8 hectares, the Port of Fontvieille is well protected and has berths for 160 vessels. Its size however does not permit it to accept vessels more than 30 meters in length. The Port of Fontvieille is a restricted port in which all berths are reserved annually. Except in certain instances, as for example when a berth is left vacant by the departure of a vessel, the Port of Fontvieille is unable to accept transiting vessels.
Located in the heart of Fontivieille, near the commercial and recreational centers, the port offers yachtsmen excellent facilities. The Capitainerie of the Port of Fontvieille is under the control of the Direction des Ports located in the Port d'Hercule.

 On approaching the Port of Fontvieille , please announce your arrival on VHF Channel 9 giving the name of your vessel. The pilot office operates each day during the following hours :
 from 1st May to 30 th September 08.00 hrs to 22.00 hrs
from 1st October to 30 April 08.00 hrs to 20.00 hrs

Letters addressed to vessels berthed in the Port of Fontvieille are delivered to the Capitainerie du Port de Fontvieille from where they can be collected.

The Port of Fontvieille is equipped with two restrooms. They are opened during the same hours as the Capitainerie.
